I was excited to check out Gamasutra today and discover that my hero and idol, Reggie Fils-Aime, has been promoted to President and COO of Nintendo America. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. On a surface level, what Nintendo is doing doesn't have a lot to do with ARGs; but Reggie is a true Visionary-with-a-capital-V, and he has a perspective on how the gaming business should grow that doesn't just ring true for me, it reverberates in my bones and keeps me up at night.
Who can argue with making gaming a more social experience, with untying the game from the interface, with making experiences even novice gamers can love and get excited about? We may be taking divergent paths, but isn't that a lot of what we're trying to accomplish with ARGs?
